Our Annual General Meeting, which is held in October each year, is our major event. Over the years our meetings have been held in some very interesting and prestigious venues, including Mansion House, the Garden Museum and the Nomura offices overlooking Tower Bridge.
The meetings are led by our Chairman, currently Rex Thornborough MStJ RD, and our illustrious President, Hugh Johnson OBE. Guests include MPGA members, London Mayors and representatives of many of London's gardening organisations. We usually have a very good turnout and the evening ends with a reception and the chance for our guests to network.
As the meeting is our major event, we try to make it special. In this regard, we've been fortunate to have had some excellent Speakers, including Wesley Kerr, Christopher Woodward, Loyd Grossman and Mark Camley, who have spoken on a wide range of interesting topics, adding to the enjoyment of the evening.
At the AGM we also present our prestigious London Spade Award to a person or organisation who we feel has improved a London park, garden or green space. Over the years, our winners have varied from the Royal Parks for their restoration work at St James's Park to Ann Holman of London in Bloom as well as several London Boroughs, including Croydon, Tower Hamlets, Lambeth, Hackney, Lewisham and Hillingdon for the improvements made in their parks.
Several of our recent Annual Reports are available on the website, see below. They are a good reflection of our activities and achievements each year and illustrate the hard work put in by our Chairman and the committee as well as giving details of the grants and support we have given.
