Bulbs for London is an MPGA initiative in collaboration with Taylors Bulbs of Holbeach, the renowned British bulb company.
WHO BENEFITS?
Since Bulbs for London began in 2012, Taylors have very generously provided and distributed bulbs totally free of charge to over 1,000 sites across London. These include public parks, gardens and green spaces, nature reserves, the gardens of hospitals, hospices, alms-houses, libraries and schools as well as churchyards, fire stations and railway stations. Many of these spaces are looked after by volunteers who give their time to enhance the capital for the benefit of us all.
HOW TO APPLY
Let us know if you are interested and we'll send you an application form when we hear from Taylors in November. We receive a high number of requests and priority is given to appropriate public sites which have not previously received bulbs. We ask recipients to furnish us with pictures showing the bulbs in bloom the following Spring.
TREMENDOUS IMPACT
Huge thanks must go to TAYLORS, Royal Warrant holders and recipients of many Gold Awards at Chelsea, as their bulbs really make a tremendous impact when they come into bloom. The beautiful spring displays brighten the daily lives of countless people across London, as you can see from some of our amazing pictures.
THE COVID YEARS
In 2020 Taylors had very few bulbs available. Nevertheless they did an amazing job and managed to send out mixed boxes of bulbs to 38 gardens and sites across London. They were particularly appreciated in this very difficult year. However in 2021 they were back on track and offered us bulbs for well over 100 sites – enabling us to reach almost every London Borough.
Again, our thanks go to Taylors Bulbs who, even in the difficult times of Covid, generously provided and distributed their award winning bulbs, for which the recipients were hugely grateful.
If you would like to apply for bulbs, please bear in mind that they are not available until towards the end of November and need to be planted as soon as they are received. In the main, the planting is carried out by the wonderful teams of volunteers who work in so many of London's parks and green spaces. In fact our initiative highlights just how many volunteers give their time to enhance the capital for the benefit of us all.
